Our Unique History

Andrews is a company with a human face, not a corporate one. Cecil Jackson Cole, a humanitarian and entrepreneur, founded us in 1946. He believed that business acumen and commercial success could work for the benefit of society. Through his vision and the profits of Andrews he was able to build long term sustained improvements into the lives of ordinary people - particularly the excluded and the most disadvantaged.

In later years, Jackson Cole set up three charitable trusts to take over the ownership of Andrews and to continue the course of social entrepreneurialism he had set. These three registered charitable trusts: Andrews Charitable Trust; Christian Book Promotion Trust and Christian Initiative Trust, depend on our profits to provide 'seed corn' funding to support selected projects. Over the years, these trusts have helped launch innovative charitable ventures that meet human need in new ways.

Each trust has a chairman and a number of independent trustees. Three executive directors of Andrews Estate Agents are trustees of each of the three trusts.

To our knowledge, we are the only organisation of our type to have such a singular heritage and to this day, the work of Cecil Jackson Cole is largely unrecognised outside of Andrews.
