A classic among contemporaries

Celebrating our 66th year, we’ve certainly been around for a while. And that’s no bad thing.

Founded by entrepreneur and humanitarian Cecil Jackson-Cole, we began in the property business in 1946, and since then we've grown to over 80 estate agent and letting agent branches across the South of England. Since we opened our very first Andrews office, the world has seen many changes – we should know, as we’ve been there to see it all.

We’ve seen the Queen’s coronation. The first man on the moon. The rise of disco. The fall of disco. The dawn of the internet age. And many other events that have changed the world as we know it.

But whilst all of these things were happening, we were making history of our own through a series of firsts:

1. We were the first estate agent to advertise on commercial TV in the UK.

2. We helped to found the NAEA, the UK’s leading professional body for estate agents.

3. We were the first agent to have plain language terms of business and a customer promise.

4. We were the first agent to win the Unisys award for service.

5. We opened our first ‘green’ branch in Gloucester

6. We were the first estate agent to launch a 12-month Apprenticeship scheme. So far, the scheme has taken on and trained over 25 members of staff.

7. And just last year, we were the first agent to have a fully-interactive website providing two-way interaction in real time.

Our main aim has always been to lead the way for the industry by providing the best possible service to our customers who come to us for their property needs.

But as well as doing this, we’ve always stood firmly by the values of our founder, through our commitment to supporting the work of our three charitable trusts (led by ACT) through our profits. We played a big hand in founding Oxfam, ActionAid and Help The Aged, amongst other leading charities (no, we really did!) We’re very proud to have given over £5 million to our charitable trusts since 1996, and to also have co-founded the Estate Agency Foundation in 2007, the industry’s charity to combat the causes of homelessness.

So here we are in 2012.

Whilst many other agents have come and gone, we’re still here, doing what we do best – property.
