Putney is home to a vibrant food and drink scene. The area's restaurants cater for a wide range of tastes and include a family-run Italian, Enoteca Turi, Thai dishes from the Thai Square Restaurant (which looks out over the Thames) and Spanish cuisine at Alquimia. If you'd rather put your own spread together, The Putney Farmer's Market is held every Sunday.
There's also a wide selection of pubs along the river, including The Duke's Head and The Boathouse. Live music venues are common, such as The Half Moon, which showcases acts ranging from rock and blues to jazz.
There's plenty in Putney to keep residents active. Putney Leisure Centre has a gym, swimming pool and workout classes, whilst Richmond Park has a golf course perfect for a leisurely Sunday morning game.
Putney Bridge is famous as the starting point for the Oxford and Cambridge boat race, so unsurprisingly rowing is a popular pastime. There are a number of clubs, such as the London Rowing Club and Putney Town Rowing Club in the area.

Putney is also ideally located for a stroll or bike ride along the Thames Path, punctuated with a glass of lemonade at one of the many riverbank pubs.
In neighbouring Wandsworth, there is also Wandsworth Park, which is popular for organised sport.
Across the river, you'll find Fulham Palace Museum, which is situated on a site steeped in history – there are the foundations of a medieval palace under the east lawn and archaeological evidence of Neolithic, Iron Age and Roman settlers. As well as a museum detailing the palace's history, there is also a diverse program of events.
For a wide range of high-street shops, head to the Putney Exchange Shopping Centre, where you'll find stores including H&M, River Island, Argos and Office. There's also great shopping along Putney High Street, which offers a mixture of big brands and local stores.
You'll also find most of the major supermarkets, including Waitrose, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Asda.
The Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race is an annual event that dates back to 1856 and takes place on the Thames between Putney and Mortlake. This is a great day out and thousands of people line the river and cheer on their favourite team.
For all-year-round entertainment, there's Putney Arts Theatre, home to two resident theatre groups and an Odeon cinema on the high-street.
For the kids, there's the Putney Sculpture Trail, which runs alongside the river and features nine near-life-size figurative sculptures. There's also the London Wetland Centre in neighbouring Barnes, which has lakes, play areas and gardens.

There is a variety of schools in and around Putney. Primary schools include a Church of England School, All Saints, Granard Primary School and a Catholic School, Our Lady of Victories in Wandsworth.
For older children, there are two academies, ARK Putney and Ashcroft Technology Academy. There's also an all-girls school, Putney High School and a Catholic school, St John Bosco College, in Wimbledon.
