Renters on average stay 18 months in their home

Are you a landlord wondering how long you can expect a tenancy to last? Or a tenant wondering how long is the normal to stay in a rental home? Well wonder no more.

Renters, on average, stay 18 months in their rental homes which is 6 months longer than the average length of lease signed which is 12 months.

It will come as no surprise to see that younger renters stay in their rental homes for a shorter period of time compared to older renters, and there is a steady upward trend in tenancy length by age bracket.

Tenants aged 20 to 29 on average stay 13 months, compared to 30 to 39 year olds who stay 22 months. Those aged 40 to 59 stay on average 27 to 28 months, whilst tenants aged 60 plus stay on average 35 months.
