On the move

Despite the pandemic slowing most people’s plans down in 2020 it didn’t stop a huge number of people relocating within the UK.

From January to June of 2020 nearly 1.5 million people moved regions in the UK.

Since the pandemic the housing market demand has increased significantly, with people making moves away from cities and favouring home working and more space. This is likely to lead to even more people changing regions from July 2020 to today.

Proportionally Scotland, Wales and the South West witnessed the most significant increase in their residential population due to internal migration, whereas London saw the most decrease in residential population.

In 2020 London saw 320k people move out, compared to just under 220k move in.
