Helping those who need it most

This year, we have four fantastic runners entering the London Marathon to raise money for two fantastic causes.

With less than three weeks to go, we wanted to share a little bit more about each of our runners and what it means to them to be running in a few weeks time.

Cameron Tan-Spiers, Negotiator in Stroud

Why did you want to run the London Marathon?

My opportunity to help those in need gives me the perfect excuse to run the very scary 26.2 mile run. Accomplishing a challenge of this scale for a good cause, there's not a better reason to do this run. This is a challenge I have taken to help support others by committing to a difficult challenge that I can truly be proud of.

Why did you choose to run for Carers Worldwide?

Child Rescue Nepal is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating children that are the product of child trafficking. They are responsible for rescuing children and returning these children back to their families from where they were abducted. This is a new charity with a large problem to tackle and having rescued and rehabilitated over 850 children so far they are making strides to tackling this problem. It’s estimated that there are around 100,000 children involved in trafficking and this exposes them to terrible actions such as abuse and exploitation. They miss out on an education and suffer with health conditions and malnourishment. I’m raising funds for this cause as it is a very important but overlooked cause in the large scale of the world today and believe that this deserves more attention.

How has your training been going?

I started my training by running a few 3 mile runs a week, I had a long way to go to reach the 26.2 miles. To take on my goal, I took a training approach that was aimed at gradually increasing the distance that I run each week and also the number of times I ran. This helped me to slowly build up my distance, recovery and fitness. I am now at the 22 mile mark and very close now to reaching the goal of the marathon itself. Very happy with the progress I have made over time and just have one last final stretch to reach the milestone!

I would really appreciate your help and support, thanks to all who have given so generously so far! Please check out my page and give as much as you can it all really does help.
